Well, we can't always expect the new year to bring good news, on demand. And much of the good news around the world comes because someone, somewhere is making it happen.
It's sad to see some people's otherwise peaceful lives disrupted by natural disaster. But it's also a reminder not to take anything for granted. We must learn to expect the unexpected & adapt accordingly.
So, all of our positive actions count for something. Let's all try to do something not only for ourselves this year, but for the benefit of others.
On New Year's Day, I was alone at my work. Then suddenly I felt lightheaded. The shaking was so strong that I thought I was barking. It was quite a long time. I saw the floor shaking. The blinds in the next room were rattling against the window. I thought it was an earthquake, not something wrong with my head.
The Next day When I got home from work and turned on the TV, JAL plane had burst into flames. I thought this year would be a tough year. Instinctively I thought the reconstruction tax would be increased.
Every year, on New Year's Day, I try to reflect on the previous year and set goals for this year. I've been listening to NHKWORD for the past few years, but I haven't improved at all, so I decided to switch to YouTube because I found it has some good teaching materials. I'm looking forward to seeing the results in a year. If I wuold be alive until then.
On that day when we've got a tremendous earthquake, Jan 1 at around 16:00, my daughter and grandchild were just under preparing for going home on the Second Toumei Highway by car.
It's a quite hard decision for her to go home in the midst of the disaster, still coming an unexpected earthquakes.
They've left my apartment at 16:40, it took 5 hour drive to Kanagawa over driving the domestic roads also. My husband and I have remained in concern.
A Happy New Year in 2024!!
